Indian summer and autumn colours
Each autumn, the Indian summer sets maple, birch and sugar maple forests ablaze with reds and golds. In Mauricie, Charlevoix or along the St Lawrence, scenic drives invite a getaway with a warm sweater and soft music. A coffee shared in a country inn, hands cupped around a steaming mug, is enough to begin a lovely story. The smell of crackling wood in the fireplace does the rest.
Sugar shacks and local flavours
In spring, sugar shacks open their doors around Montreal, Quebec City and Trois-Rivières. You share baked beans, smoked ham, eggs in syrup and maple taffy poured on fresh snow. In the bistros, poutine, smoked meat and tourtière make up a hearty, friendly cuisine. The idea for a first date is right there: a small table, two generous plates and a beer from a Quebec microbrewery.
Festivals and winter carnival
Quebec City pulses every summer with the Festival d’été, ten days of music on the Plains of Abraham, and switches in August to the colourful New France Festival. In winter, the Carnival and its Bonhomme de neige turn the francophone capital into a playground. On Lyad, French-speaking singles across Canada share their seasonal favourites; it is up to you to find someone to raise the next glass with.
